Talented and Gifted (TAG) Program
The goal of Talented and Gifted (TAG) programming is to make certain K-12 students consistently have learning opportunities that are challenging, systematic and continuous based on learning profile, readiness and student interest.

Student learning experiences include a broad range of opportunities that pushes a student to their next level of challenge and allows them to develop their talents. TAG programming may occur in the classroom, or in other settings. TAG programming is determined by ongoing evaluation and assessment of individual student needs. Each school has TAG resource support for ongoing consultation.

School Climate

We have historically had more happy and hopeful students and staff than many schools in the District, including those with considerably less poverty or other challenges (based on Gallup survey polls).

Safety is a priority! Playgrounds are supervised 15 minutes before school and during all recesses. A city crossing guard assists children at the Portage Road crossing. Bus transportation is provided for children living more than 1.5 miles from school in school buses.

Peaceful Problem Solving and Conflict Resolution: Training is provided for all students. Teachers and support staff teach problem solving skills geared to successfully handle conflict.

Partnerships

Family Partnerships: These include Sandburg tutors, volunteers, the school's Parent Teacher Association, African-American Support Group, and our Latino Family Group.

Community Partnerships: Sandburg's partnership with Target, a local retail store, provides many school benefits. Sandburg has enjoyed a partnership with Herzing College to provide new computers for our computer lab. We have also been working with the University of Phoenix and McKinstry Corporation, among others.

University Partnerships: The school benefits from student teachers who attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, UW-Whitewater and Edgewood College.
